Memorial Trees Program Beautifying Unattractive Substation

by Bill Lucas

In March, a group of volunteers working with Buckhead Rotary, Trees Atlanta and Georgia Power planted 15 trees in front of the Georgia Power substation on Piedmont Road at East Paces Ferry Road, a couple of blocks from Anthony's. The trees are a memorial to departed Buckhead Rotarians, and this is the first tree project for the Caring Hands Committee.

Georgia Power is developing a long range landscape plan for the substation. Rotary will continue to work with them so that over the next five years, the area will become a lovely park that screens out the substation as much as possible and in the process creates a Buckhead Rotary Grove in honor and memory of Rotarians.
