Podcast: Georgia Lawmaker Predicts Most Difficult Legislative Session Since DepressionThe Georgia State budget in free fall, a transportation crisis, water crisis, and ethics issues - challenges facing the Georgia General Assembly, which begins its session next week. Representative Ed Lindsey, Republican representing part of Fulton County including Buckhead, predicts the most difficult session since the Great Depression, due to the need for $1.5 billion in additional cuts. The good news, he says, is the ethics issues surrounding former House Speaker Glenn Richardson, who resigned following allegations of an affair with a lobbyist, are now in the past. In this week's Buckhead Rotary Podcast, Lindsey says the focus now is on how to make-up for a revenue shortfall without raising taxes or hurting education or public safety.
