GRSP Student for 2010-11 Selected

by Brennan Robison

Buckhead Rotary has selected the international student we would like to host next school year. GRSP Trustee Bill Perkins traveled to Savannah last weekend to negotiate with other clubs to get our top pick, and he was successful.

We will publish the student's name and nationality after GRSP receives word that the student has accepted the scholarship.

Our GRSP committee considered dozens of potential candidates and made a special effort to target a Spanish-speaking student.

Mark Meltzer (awarded "Rotarian of the Week" for his role in the selection process) will host the student during the next school year.

As chair of the GRSP committee, I would like to thank the other participants in the process: Director Jack Hellriegel, current host Candace Klein, and past host Alec Smythe. We also received invaluable counsel from President Means and Past President Aadu.

The Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) exports good will around the world by inviting international students to study at Georgia universities for one school year. Our current student, Ranjita Nair of Fiji, is studying at Oglethorpe University. Our other students in recent years were from Poland, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
