Since 1947, 37,000 young people from 100 nations have studied abroad under Ambassadorial Scholarships. The primary objective of the program is to promote international understanding; the scholars are expected to serve as ambassadors of goodwill during the scholarship term. Buckhead Rotary's scholar candidates study at metro-Atlanta colleges or are legal residents of Atlanta. Undergraduate candidates fare best if they have reached at least their sophomore year; graduate-level students are also encouraged to apply. Applications are due to Buckhead Rotary about May 1st each year. The program awards up to $23,000 for study abroad; scholarship types include three- and six-month cultural programs and one- and two-year academic programs. Buckhead recommends candidates to the District 6900 scholarship selection committee which makes the final scholarship awards. District interviews are conducted during July and August.

World Community Service Matching Grant
Jack Hellriegel

This is our final year of a three year sister-club relationship and reciprocal matching grant program established with District 2420 and Istanbul-Ulus Rotary Club in Turkey. The World Community Service program was officially launched in 1967. The program offers grants to support clubs and districts as they undertake humanitarian and service projects internationally. The WCS program links Rotary clubs needing extra help with clubs in other countries that are willing to provide funds, materials, and technical and professional assistance. Since 1967, thousands of WCS projects involving Rotarians around the world have been completed. Each year, Rotary clubs provide an estimated US$26 million in funds and supplies.
